THE LAST WORD

Another committee was formed by Naito Takaharu, Takano Sasaburo, Negishi Shingoro, Tsuji Shinpei and Monna
Tadashi to design a different set of kendo kata. The ‘Dai-Nippon Teikoku Kendo Kata‘ was
unveiled in 1912, and consisted of seven techniques with the tachi (sword vs. sword), and three with the
kodachi (sword vs. short-sword). The various traditional schools of kenjutsu had been successfully
amalgamated into a unified style of kendo. This set of kata is still studied by kendo practioners as the
