About PNKF
The Pacific Northwest Kendo Federation (PNKF) is an association of kendo and iaido clubs in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, and Montana. Its purpose is to support the training and study of Japanese kendo and iaido across the region.
How the federation is organized
PNKF is led by a Board of Directors and officers who coordinate services that individual clubs may not be able to provide on their own. PNKF is a member federation of the All United States Kendo Federation (AUSKF), which brings together kendo federations and clubs across the United States. AUSKF is affiliated with the International Kendo Federation (FIK), the international body for national kendo organizations.
Each dojo is an independent club, while PNKF membership connects the clubs and practitioners across the five-state region. Membership is at the club level, so people interested in beginning kendo or iaido should contact a nearby member dojo.
Services for members
The federation organizes seminars, tournaments, group practices, and rank examinations recognized through the national and international kendo community. It also supports mentorship, insurance, and opportunities for members to visit other PNKF dojos. The open-door practice tradition extends beyond the region: members may also arrange visits to affiliated clubs elsewhere in the United States.
Through its connection with AUSKF and FIK, PNKF helps members take part in a broader national and international kendo community, including opportunities connected with the United States national team and World Kendo Championships.
